The voyage of the Interreg Atlantic Area funded and ERNACT led TIDE project is well underway to develop Niche Tourism Packages themed to represent the Napoleonic, Spanish Armada, World War and Atlantic Migration eras in history. A vital first step in this process was the collation of tourism good practices from each of the partner regions.
The good practices collected help to build a transnational knowledgebase of how niche cultural tourism packages are currently developed. This includes knowledge on how unique physical assets or archives are identified, how ideas for new packages are generated, and how market research, feasibility, sustainability and marketing are carried out. This facilitates a comparison of successful approaches that contributes to the success of the overall project.
Partners from Spain, Portugal, France, Ireland and the UK worked together to nominate good practices in their regions that relate to:
- Potential Historical Site Identification
- Stakeholder Involvement
- Market Research
- Business Case Development
- Product Development
The partnership has successfully identified 24 good practices from which to learn and transfer knowledge. The good practices include historical sites, museums, exhibitions, events, archives and informative platforms among other prime examples. The TIDE good practices can be viewed on the project website
These examples and other European/International good practices will soon be available as part of the upcoming publication of the TIDE Niche Tourism Toolkit
. The Toolkit is a collection of examples, stories and best practices that relate to cultural & maritime heritage, asset identification and digitisation / virtualisation of historical assets. The aim of the Toolkit is to aid tourism practitioners in the Atlantic Area to maximise the potential of their historical maritime assets. The Toolkit will be available through the project website
