A day to celebrate our blue planet!
4 Jun 2020
World Oceans Day, June 8, is coming and from TIDE, we want to (re)discover and promote underwater historical remains though VR and AR in the Atlantic.
World Ocean Day is around the corner, on the 8th of June we will be celebrating the beauty and importance of protecting our blue planet, full of history and underwater archaeological remains that take us back to Spanish Armada, World Wars, Atlantic migrations and Napoleonic era, among others.

"On World Oceans Day, people around our blue planet celebrate and honor our ocean, which connects us all. Get together with your family, friends, community, and millions of others around our blue planet to start creating a better future. By working together, we can -- and will -- protect and restore our shared ocean. Join this growing global celebration on 8 June with continuing engagement year-round!", they explain from World Oceans Day the official website.

Apart from encouraging the conservation of our oceans, in the TIDE project we aim to (re)discover and promote underwater historical remains though VR and AR in the Atlantic. "Historical maritime assets cannot always be exhibited or visited directly. Sometimes a site or an artefact is not accessible due to conservation issues or because it no longer exists. Furthermore, objects in museums are rarely displayed in the context in which they were found or for which they were created. However, with help from new interactive technologies such as AR and VR, we can record, preserve or recreate artefacts, sites and actors of historical significance to provide richer experiences through electronic manipulation of time and space. Virtual heritage allows access to sites and artefacts, whilst conserving the delicate environments in which they reside", adds Juanita Blue, TIDE Project Manager.
