Experience World War 1 using Virtual Reality: would you be up to protecting a maritime convoy?
31 May 2021
TIDE project partners in Pays de la Loire will develop a tourist attraction using emerging technologies.

We continue our virtual tour across TIDE project regions where partners are currently immersed in the development of pilot actions. They are using digital technologies to network historical maritime tourism attractions in the Atlantic Area.

This week we visit Pays de la Loire in France to discover the pilot being developed by TIDE partners from CLARTE, a technological resource centre specialized in Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) and emerging technologies. Our French partners are providing VR expertise and developing VR prototypes for the rest of the TIDE project partners. CLARTE is developing tools to help connecting new tourism relationships with visitor attractions in the Atlantic partner regions.

Lionel Dominjon, a VR expert from CLARTE and TIDE project partner, tells us more about one of the pilot ideas, a kite balloon experience which is connected to World War 1 project theme. “We are developing a virtual reality experience were the player will find himself/herself 500m above the sea in a kite balloon towed by a destroyer vessel, with the mission to ensure the security of a convoy sailing from the America". In this immersive simulation there can be no failure. "The player will feel the stress that former spotters used to go through… while enjoying the beautiful coastline of the Atlantic”.

Stay tuned! TIDE is leading the Digital Transformation of the tourism sector in the Atlantic Area!
