TIDE Project Brings Devon's Historical Sites to Life

From Bolt Tail to Dartmouth Castle, and Topsham Museum to the TIDE Platform, discover the Rich Cultural Heritage of Devon
Devon's rich history and cultural heritage continue to attract tourists and locals alike. In March, Interreg Atlantic Area funded TIDE project partner Bill Horner, County Archaeologist & Historic Environment Manager from Devon County Council, led a guided tour to Bolt Tail in South Devon offered a glimpse into the Iron Age Promontory Fort and the final resting place of the San Pedro el Mayor (St Peter the Great). The San Pedro was a hospital ship that sailed with the Spanish Armada and nearly survived the entire campaign before being wrecked on the Devon coast during the homeward journey. Finds from the San Pedro are on display at Salcombe Museum, which will also be featured on the TIDE Platform, a project that promotes Devon's historical sites.
Another upcoming event is a walk led by a Bill Horner on the 16th of April, around the multi-period defences of Dartmouth Castle, a historic landmark that was featured in the opening TIDE conference in May 2019. The castle will also be included on the TIDE Platform, and its inclusion on the Explore Devon website has been supported by TIDE.
Also, on April 3rd our partner made a presentation on TIDE but particularly HMS Terror, and Topsham Museum to the Exe Estuary Partnership that has resulted in an invitation to give a similar talk to one of the Exeter branches of the Rotary Club later this month. Topsham Museum also has a virtual tour that will be included in the TIDE Platform entry. With so many exciting events and initiatives in the works, Devon's history and heritage are sure to continue to captivate and inspire.
Stay tuned for more!
