On June 23 at Casa-Museu Frederico de Freitas in Funchal (Madeira), TIDE project partner Madeira Tourism Board will host the launch of a new comic book “FROM MADEIRA TO HAWAII”. The comic book features four real-life episodes of Portuguese immigration to Hawaii, which began in 1878 when Madeira laborers crossed the Atlantic and the Pacific to work in the sugarcane plantations in Hawaii.
The comic book will be available in paper, Kindle, and PDF in Portuguese and English, Madeira Tourism Board will publish 1.000 books in Portuguese and 1.000 books in English and includes three different styles of Augmented Reality (AR) experiences.
The AR content is going to be accessible via a web interface that can be accessed on all types of mobile phones with internet. There won’t be need to install additional apps to access the AR experiences that includes virtual elements over the printed page, virtual maps, and documents over a surface and 360º environments shown around the user.
The book's back cover contains all the information regarding the colours, signs, and symbols for the AR experiences. The event will be presided over by the Regional Secretary of Tourism and Culture of Madeira, Mr. Eduardo Jesus.
This book publication promises to be a unique and exciting reading experience that merges traditional printed content with cutting-edge AR technology.
